Arsenal handed Havertz injury worry as forward limps out of Germany match

Arsenal star Kai Havertz has given the Gunners fresh concern after being taken off early for Germany in their clash with the Netherlands.

The Gunners forward was named in Jurgen Klopp's first squad and was handed a place in the starting XI in Thursday evening's Nations League game vs the Netherlands.

But his evening lasted just 30 minutes, Havertz was on the end of a heavy challenge from the brother of his Arsenal teammate Jurrien Timber, Quinten.

He stayed on the floor and received treatment from members of the Germany medical team before being replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib.

Arsenal will be keeping their fingers crossed that Havertz has managed to escape a serious issue. The former Chelsea man helped Arsenal to the Premier League title last term and also netted in the Champions League final defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.

Since joining the club from Chelsea, Havertz has scored 39 goals in 118 appearances in all competitions. The 27-year-old has also netted 25 goals in 63 appearances for his nation.

Germany boss Jurgen Klopp will also be keeping his fingers crossed that Havertz does not have a serious problem, albeit the former Liverpool boss has named a unconvential big squad for the three-week international break so has plenty of options.

Half of the squad is set to play the first two fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece, while the other half will take on Serbia, as well as a second showdown with Greece.

Explaining that approach, he said: "We've got a few guys here who will surprise you, but we see something in the guys and want to be there for their development. Lots of talent has caught our eye - so much that some aren't even included."

Havertz was not the only Premier League forward left with a major concern during Thursday's clash Sunderland's Brian Brobbey was also involved in a tangle with Jonathan Tah on the halfway line and immediately requested a substitution.

The 24-year-old was handed a place in the Dutch squad after a positive start to the new campaign. His most recent outing saw him score a sensational hat-trick against Manchester City at the Etihad.

There was controversy immediately after that incident, with Germany seemingly set to stop the game so that Brobbey could receive treatment. And with play slowed, the away side then played through the Netherlands and scored their opening goal through Felix Nmecha, which triggered an angry melee between the two sets of players.
