Since the franchise’s inception in 1970, the Clippers have been led by several talented playmakers. These five players have dished out the most assists in franchise history.

Chris Paul

The Clippers’ all-time leader in assists with 4,076, Chris Paul became the engine of one of the most exciting eras in franchise history. Alongside Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, Paul formed the core of the “Lob City” Clippers, helping lead the team to six winning seasons from 2011-17, including the franchise’s first two Pacific Division titles and three playoff series victories. A five-time All-Star with the Clippers and 12-time All-Star overall, Paul ranks second in NBA history with 12,552 career assists, becoming the first player to record at least 20,000 points and 10,000 assists. He retired after a legendary 21-season career.

Randy Smith

Randy Smith stands as the Clippers’ all-time leader in points and steals, and second in franchise history in assists. Smith totaled 3,489 assists during his Clippers tenure while averaging 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists over his 13-year NBA career. A two-time All-Star, Smith also became known for his incredible durability, playing in 906 consecutive regular-season games from 1972 to 1983.

Gary Grant ranks third in franchise history in assists (2,810) and steals (747) after spending seven seasons with the Clippers from 1988-1995. Grant recorded his best season in Los Angeles in 1989-90, when he posted career-high averages of 13.1 points, 10.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

Norm Nixon

Norm Nixon ranks fourth in the Clippers’ history in assists after spending four impactful seasons on the court with the franchise from 1983 to 1989. A gifted playmaker, Nixon averaged 8.3 assists over his 10-year NBA career before a ruptured Achilles tendon sidelined him for two seasons. He returned for 53 games in 1988-89 before announcing his retirement.

Blake Griffin ranks fifth in Clippers history in assists and remains one of the most accomplished players in franchise history. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Griffin became the face of the “Lob City” era, ranking No. 2 in franchise history in points scored (10,863) while finishing in the top 10 in games played, assists, steals, rebounds, field goals made and free throws made. During his eight seasons with the Clippers, Griffin averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, earning five All-Star selections and four All-NBA honors.
