Alejandro Garnacho: Why Chelsea are considering selling ex-United star

Ruben Amorim made many questionable transfer decisions in charge of Manchester United .

However, the Portuguese deserves praise for showing the exit door to United stars who lacked the right mentality and work ethic required to play for the Premier League giants.

Alejandro Garnacho was one of the most high-profile United players to become a casualty of Amorim’s no-nonsense approach.

Manchester United agreed to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for a fixed fee of £40 million last summer.

Many fans and pundits alike have questioned United’s decision to part ways with their prolific academy graduate. However, Garnacho’s form at Chelsea has vindicated Ruben Amorim’s decision.

The 21-year-old is not a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, having been handed just 14 league starts. He has an underwhelming record of one goal and four assists in 20 appearances.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on his Substack , Chelsea are already open to offers for Garnacho in the summer.

“Chelsea believe that Garnacho would have a lot of suitors willing to basically pay the same fee that they did to sign him last summer,” Phillips wrote.

“The club apparently believed that the left wing market was dry last summer – but there have been some recruitment regrets from the summer too.”

As per ESPN , United will receive 10 per cent of a future transfer fee. As such, any movement in London would grab the attention of figures in Manchester.

Amorim also offloaded Marcus Rashford , who joined Barcelona on a season-long loan last summer following a six-month stint at Aston Villa.

Rashford, however, remains on United’s books. Barcelona have an option to sign him permanently for £26m, but the Blaugrana are yet to make a final decision on his future,

The Englishman has received criticism for his work rate, but he remains a potent attacking threat. Rashford has been directly involved in 24 goals across all competitions under Hansi Flick.
