Agent confirms Rodri has chosen to pursue Barcelona move

Barcelona are moving closer to one of the biggest deals of the summer transfer window, with Rodri set to join from Manchester City. In the last 48 hours, they have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Spain international after he gave them green light, and all that remains is finding a breakthrough during club-to-club talks.

For weeks, Real Madrid had been heavy favourites to sign Rodri. They had their own agreement on personal terms, but after failing to get a deal done with Man City, Barcelona have now swooped in to great effect – and if the Catalans end up getting their man, it would be a statement signing ahead of the new season getting underway.

The reports that Rodri has chosen Barcelona over Real Madrid have now been confirmed by the player’s agent during an interview with El Larguero (via Fabrizio Romano). The 30-year-old has informed Los Blancos bosses that he is no longer interested in a move to the Bernabeu, with his plan being to join Hansi Flick’s squad.

“Out of respect for Real Madrid, as they have been class, Rodri informed them that his decision is to join Barcelona.”

Confidence that Rodri deal will be wrapped up soon

Now that Rodri has committed himself to Barcelona, club-to-club talks are about to get underway with Man City. It’s anticipated that an agreement will be found relatively soon, given that the Premier League giants are aware that they must cash in this summer, knowing that their player will not sign an extension on his current contract, which expires in 2027.

There is no doubt that Rodri will be a superb signing for Barcelona. Midfield was not an area that they had planned to address this summer – even with Marc Casado poised to leave – but when a market opportunity like this one comes along, it is very difficult to turn it down.
